RC2 PolyMon Manager crash on startup

I've installed RC2 and tried to run PolyMon Manager from a remote machine connecting to server running SQL 2000 and PolyMon Executive. PolyMon Manager crashes with the following .NET error in the event log:

EventType clr20r3, P1 polymonmanager.exe, P2 0.4.0.0, P3 459ed118, P4 polymonmanager, P5 0.4.0.0, P6 459ed118, P7 23, P8 c6, P9 system.invalidoperationexception, P10 NIL.

The PolyMon Manager configuration is same as the default except for the SQL connection string:

<add key="SQLConn" value="Data Source=SQLServerName;Initial Catalog=PolyMon;UserID=SQLUserName;Password=SQLUserPassword;"/>

Could you please post a fuller dump of the error that comes up? I am unable to determine what the problem could be with the information you have provided.

Also, there used to be an issue in one of the previous PolyMon Manager installs that located the PolyMon executable inside the Start Menu (instead of a shortcut to the executable in the main install folder). This resolved with a new release of the executable - please make sure you have the latest install package (released 1/12/2007).

Thanks.

Yes. I am using the 1/12 RC2 package. How do I get the full dump you requested? I sent everything in the event log message. PolyMon Manager simply terminates with no warning or information.

Don't know if helps but I am running PolyMon Manager on a Windows 2000 Server SP4 machine.

I have not tried PolyMon manager on Win2k.
Could you let me know:

1. How PolyMon is installed/configured: i.e. machine on which the manager is running, machine on which the service is running, machine on which SQL is running. Are they the same servers, OS, etc.

2. Are you using the default PolyMon database name in SQL or a different name (may be a bug there)...

3. Does the PolyMon manager run at all or does it crash as soon as you try to open it.

4. Does the PolyMon service (executive) startup or not (please see event log to make sure it has started up completely).

I will try to replicate the environment and see if I can reproduce the problem.

Thanks,
Fred.

1. How PolyMon is installed/configured: i.e. machine on which the manager is running, machine on which the service is running, machine on which SQL is running. Are they the same servers, OS, etc.

SQL 2000 and PolyMon Executive is running on a Windows 2003 Server machine.
PolyMon Manager is running on a separate Windows Server 2000 machine.

2. Are you using the default PolyMon database name in SQL or a different name (may be a bug there)...

Yes. The default PolyMon database name is used.

3. Does the PolyMon manager run at all or does it crash as soon as you try to open it.

It pretty much crashes as soon as I start it. The PolyMon Manager GUI is never displayed.

4. Does the PolyMon service (executive) startup or not (please see event log to make sure it has started up completely).

No problem with PolyMon Executive. It's runs fine.

I also am having this same problem, but I found out it seems to be related to different users.

As the "administrator" user, I can successfully run the manager without issues, but when I logout and then login as another user (admin privileges), the manager cannot even start.

Any ideas on what I might be able to do to get it to work with the other user?

Thanks,

Is PolyMon Manager generating a runtime error at all or just not starting up without any visible error reported?

One potential problem could be the connection string to your database server. If you are using integrated security, you need to make sure that whatever user you are logged in as has full rights to the PolyMon database specified in the connection string.

I have Visual Studio 2005 installed so I get a debug window.

It states "PolyMon Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and "If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.". There are two buttons "Debug" and "Close". Clicking Debug brings up the VS 2005 debugger, but nothing shows up under it...

I also tried using the User ID/Password fields to login and it didn't make a difference. As a matter of fact, if I changed the User ID to an invalid entry, I get a msgbox pop up and it states: "Error loading Monitor statuses. Login failed for user dgshgd" with an OK button. If I click the OK button, I then get the crash msgbox like above...

So, it seems like the failure happens after the DB connection part.

I also created another local user as a member of Administrators and this account runs the Manager fine (same as the original admin user).

Is there some registry setting that I can wipe out related to the Domain user (GROUP1\user) that cannot start the Manager? Maybe something is corrupt somewhere?

Please let me know what else I can try...
